What is spirulina?
Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae, which is a simple, one-celled type of algae that lives in warm, alkaline fresh-water lakes.
The word spirulina is derived from the Latin word for helix or spiral; which describes the the physical attributes of the spirulina itself, as it forms curly, swirling, microscopic strands.
Spirulina contains a high level of the Essential Amino Acids , including:
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) - a rich source of this omega 6 fatty acid
Arachidonic acid (AA) - an omega 6 fatty acid
Linoleic acid (LA) - an omega 6 fatty acid
Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) - an omega 3 fatty acid
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) - an omega 3 fatty acid
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) - an omega 3 fatty acid
Spirulina also contains many vitamins:
Vitamin B1 (thiamin)
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
Vitamin B3 (niacin)
Vitamin B9 (folic acid/folate)
Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin)
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Spirulina also contains many minerals:
Calcium
Chromium
Copper
Iron
Magnesium
Manganese
Phosphorus
Potassium
Selenium
Sodium
Zinc
Important spirulina facts
Spirulina is described as a "superfood" as it contains a high level of many nutrients
Spirulina is also a probiotic
Spirulina contains unusually high amounts of protein, between 55 and 77% by dry weight, depending upon the source
Spirulina is a complete protein food (as it contains all the essential amino acids)
Spirulina is a more superior protein to all standard plant protein
Spirulina can produce 20 times more protein per hectare than soybeans
Spirulina is a rich source of potassium and other minerals
Spirulina is a rich source of many vitamins
Spirulina is a rich source of the essential fatty acid GLA, as well as other omega 6 fatty acids and omega 3 fatty acids
Spirulina also contains phytochemicals, such as carotenoids (the orange coloured antioxidant), chlorophyll (blood purifier), and phycocyanin (a blue pigment), a protein that inhibits cancer
Why spirulina is important?
Studies have shown that spriulina can inhibit HIV cells (these experiments were conducted in test tubes and not on live subjects yet).
By stimuling the production of antibodies, spirulina enhances the immune system, which improves resistance to disease. Spirulina stimulates the production and activation of the white blood cells that enhance immunity - macrophages, T cells and B cells.
Spirulina also improves digestion and absorprion, by protecting and enhancing the levels of "good" bacteria in the gastro-intestinal system and decreasing any "bad" bacteria such as candida albicans
Botanical: Spirulina platensis
Family: Lichinaceae (lichen)
Other common names: Blue Green Algae, DIHE, Tecuitlatl
Spirulina is sometimes called the greatest nutritional food source on earth and is also thought
to be a powerful immune system stimulant, an effective antioxidant that fights free radicals
and a supplement that helps control cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Spirulina is the world's richest natural source of both Vitamin B-12 and beta-carotene, beta sitosterol, biotin, folic acid, alpha linolenic acid (omega 3), gamma linoleic acid (omega 6), vitamins C and E, polysaccharides, calcium (more than milk), niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, pyridoxine, iron, phosphorous, protein (twenty times as much as soybeans growing in an equal-sized area), 62% amino acid content (all nine that the body must derive from food and the building blocks of life), the nucleic acids RNA and DNA, chlorophyll and the polypeptide, phycocyanin (the pigment found only in blue-green algae/Spirulina that has increased the survival rate of mice with liver cancer in laboratory experiments).
Beneficial Uses:
Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids can moisten mucous membranes.
Spirulina is said to be an extremely potent and healthy energy booster. Olympic athletes have been known to take Spirulina for endurance, as it reduces the buildup of lactic acid in muscles. The reduction of lactic acid also helps the recovery rate after strenuous exercise. Spirulina is believed to increase physical sharpness, as well as improve mental acuity and clarity.
Spirulina is a powerful tonic for the immune system and is thought to activate the key immune T-cells, B-cells and anti-cancer Natural Killer cells (NKs), as well as macrophages that engulf and kill germs and fight infection and disease.
Spirulina is considered an excellent antioxidant. The beta-carotene content acts as the antioxidant that is said to reduce the progress of certain malignant growths and neutralize and eliminate free radicals produced by nuclear irradiation. The Vitamin E and the superoxide dismutase found in Spirulina are also strong antioxidants that combat ageing and infection.
The high natural beta-carotene content in Spirulina is said to help improve eyesight and avoid night blindness . High in B12.
The chlorophyll in Spirulina helps to maintain a healthy gastrointestinal system, cleanse the bowel, and aid the digestive process.
The non-saturated fatty acid (gamma linolenic acid) in Spirulina is believed to strengthen cell membranes, thus reducing infection, and the polysaccharides produced by Spirulina have been thought to keep the HIV-1 virus from replicating. It is also said to rid the intestines of Candida albicans infection, which may commonly lead to malnutrition in AIDS patients.
Spirulina is believed to help in weight loss programs by curbing the appetite, and according to a 1986 study, overweight patients showed a significant reduction of body weight after including Blue Green Algae in the diet for four weeks.
Spirulina is also thought to be good for people with hypoglycemia who may benefit from using it between meals, because its high protein content helps to stabilize blood sugar levels.
Spirulina is said to reduce the LDL (bad cholesterol) levels in the blood, while increasing the production of HDLs (good cholesterol). This activity promotes greater blood circulation and may therefore reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis, strokes and heart attacks.
Ships to US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, UK. only.

Hyaluronic Acid Pure Powder 5 grams 96.50% Pure Powder (white)
(white powder)
I mix a tiny bit in water (a pinch) and a tablespoon or two of cold filtered water and shake well. Put into refrigerator. It gels in 2 hours.
It's goopy and soft. Let it dry a little and put lotion over the top. Also can be mixed with lotion and applied on face. Keep in fridge. Throw away after a few days. You will see lines plump up on your face. More the next day and day after that.
HA is a polysaccharide which is a small molecular weight that can penetrate into the dermis layer, fully combine with water which promotes hydration, nutrient absorbtion and blood circulation!
It can be used in creams, water based shampoos, lotions, etc.
*KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN*
INCI: Sodium Hyaluronate
Suggested Usage Rate: up to 2% on skin
Solubility: water
To make a basic Hyaluronic Serum, just mix 0.5g of HA to 30ml of cold liquid. The liquid can be water, or mix of water/glycerin/hydrosol. Keep in refrigerator. Shake frequently.
Honey is a natural preservative.
INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT INCLUDED
Herb Supply house is not responsible for the outcome of your mixture. We only guarantee the HA is pure. Not for injection. For dietary supplements or topical use only.
Usage
1 gram is enough for 4 fl oz of cream or lotion at approximately 1% concentration (1 g in 120 mL cream). Use in your favorite water-based cream.
Hyaluronic Acid can also be added to any cream, gel or lotion to thicken a mixture. Add some powder to a small amount of cold, filtered or distilled water, let it absorb and form a gel, then mix into the desired product. Be careful when using in a cream or other mixture as it is tricky to get the quantities correct, and using too much may spoil a cream.
Food Grade internal use:
Example only: 9 grams sea salt and 500 mg of sodium hyaluronic acid in 500 cc distilled water. You store or refrigerate unused portion and should last a month. I don't used vitamin c in the mix as it decomposes the mix. When dissolving this can be done using a cool water such as 75 F. Then shake to dissolve the mix and keep in refrigerator. Kept overnight and shake anytime then is ready for use. If you can't weigh it try 1 full teaspoon to 1 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt. The formula goes bad after 1 month the Sea salt is preservative and carrier for the hyaluronic acid. It is somewhat of a miracle cure as it allows the damaged cartilage to regenerate. This is a more watery formula for ingestion.

Heavy metal removal using chlorella 1 pound powder, Fresh. Delivered immediately!
Ultra fresh
Chlorella is a powerful detoxification aid for heavy metals and other pesticides. Numerous research projects in the U.S. and Europe indicate that chlorella can also aid the body in breaking down persistent hydrocarbon and metallic toxins such as mercury cadmium and lead, DDT and PCB while strengthening the immune system response. In Japan, interest in chlorella has focused largely on its detoxifying properties - its ability to remove or neutralize poisonous substances from the body.
This detoxification of heavy metals and other chemical toxins in the blood will take 3 to 6 months to build up enough to begin this process depending on how much chlorella a person is taking. Chlorella is a food. As such, it is almost impossible to take too much chlorella.
How Does Chlorella Detoxify Your Body?
Chlorella is comprised of a fibrous, indigestible outer shell (20%) and its inner nutrients (80%). It is the fibrous material which has been proven to actually bind with the heavy metals and pesticides - such as PCBs - which can accumulate in our bodies.
A clean bloodstream, with an abundance of red blood cells to carry oxygen, is necessary to a strong natural defense system. Chlorella's cleansing action on the bowel and other elimination channels, as well as its protection of the liver, helps keep the blood clean. Clean blood insures that metabolic wastes are efficiently carried away from the tissues.
Chlorella gets its name from the high amount of chlorophyl it possesses. Chlorella contains more chlorophyl per gram than any other plant. Chlorophyl is one of the greatest food substances for cleansing the bowel and other elimination systems, such as the liver and the blood.
Green algae are the highest sources of chlorophyl in the plant world. And of all the green algae studied so far, chlorella has the highest, often ranging from 3 to 5% pure natural chlorophyll.
Chlorella is a key detoxification tool
Hemoglobin is the protein in our red blood cells which binds with oxygen and gives blood its bright red color. Chlorophyll cells are nearly identical to hemoglobin, with one exception: Chlorophyll has a magnesium molecule at its center while hemoglobin has an iron molecule at the center of it.
This is important because magnesium is essential for the heart to function properly. Every time our heart beats, it is utilizing magnesium to do so.
Chlorophyll is effective against anemia and stimulates the production of red blood cells in the body. It also helps carry oxygen around the body and to the brain. This is why chlorella is often called a 'Brain Food'.
Several researchers have suggested the use of chlorophyll as a medical therapy for anemia.
Chlorella Will Improve Your Digestive System
Since chlorella has such a high chlorophyll content, people find chronic bad breath is often eliminated in just a few days on chlorella. Foul smelling stools are also greatly improved and chlorophyll has been attributed to relieving constipation.
Chlorella Shown To Be Helpful in Fighting Cancer
Interferon is one of our body's greatest natural defenses against cancer. One of the ways we fight cancer is to use agents to stimulate macrophage production and activity. Interferon is a natural secretion of the body which is thought to be a stimulator of macrophages and tumor necrosis factor.
Chlorella stimulates the activity of macrophages and T-cells by increasing interferon levels thus enhancing the immune system's ability to combat foreign invaders whether they are viruses, bacteria, chemicals or foreign proteins.
Chlorella Contains Natural Digestive and other Enzymes
Chlorella contains enzymes such as chlorophyllase and pepsin. Enzymes perform a number of important functions in the body. Chlorella has many different types of enzymes that our bodies need.
Chlorella is Alkaline and Helps Balance Your Body's pH
It's important that we maintain a balanced pH of ideally about 7.2-7.4, which is about neutral. However, because of our poor diet of junk food, overcooked, processed foods, fast food, which include soft drinks, which have a pH of 2.7, most of us are not balanced.
This is important because most diseases start, live and thrive in an acidic environment and do not live well in an alkaline environment. Cancer rates have risen steadily so that now fully 1/3 of all people in the U. S. will get cancer in their lifetime.
The rise of fast, junk and processed foods match those of rising cancer rates. 30 years ago, cancer in children was almost unheard of. Now they have entire hospital wards given over to children with cancer. Including whole foods like chlorella in your diet is one step you can take toward reducing your risks for cancer.
Chlorella Normalizes Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure
Studies have shown that chlorella tends to normalize blood sugar in cases of hypoglycemia. In hypoglycemia, blood sugar is too low. Proper levels of blood sugar are necessary for normal brain function, heart function and energy metabolism, all of which are crucial in sustaining good health and preventing disease.
High blood pressure is one of the major risk factors in heart attack and stroke which account for more fatalities in the United States than any other disease. Laboratory experiments have shown that regular use of chlorella reduces high blood pressure and prevents strokes in rats.
How Much Chlorella Should You Take Per Day For Mercury Detoxification?
1 teaspoon per day is a good maintenance dosage of Chlorella for a person to take. With this amount, you will not notice significant changes, however, your body will get many of the nutrients it must have to function properly such amino acids (protein), vital minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates and enzymes.
What Results Should You Expect When You Begin Taking Chlorella?
The first thing is better digestion, especially if you have bad breath or constipation. Both these are readily handled by taking small doses of chlorella. However, many of the benefits of chlorella are subtle and not easily determined by how a person feels.
For instance, chlorella has been demonstrated to remove heavy metals and other synthetics from the body by actually binding with them so they may be pulled from the bloodstream. However, this result can only be measured if the level of heavy metals in the bloodstream are known before and after a person starts taking chlorella.
It takes approximately 3-6 months once starting chlorella for heavy metals to begin to be removed from the blood depending on the amount of chlorella taken. If it has been determined that a person does have heavy metals in their body, they should begin by taking 3-4 teaspoons per day depending on the level of heavy metals that are present. Remember that chlorella is a food and as such is very safe.
What Time Of Day Or Night Should You Take Chlorella?
Chlorella can be taken at any time of the day. It can be taken all at once but preferably it should be taken in small dosages throughout the day. Morning is also a good time to take chlorella, but never just before or after drinking coffee or soft drinks, since caffeine is extremely detrimental to the digestive process.
Can Everyone Tolerate Chlorella?
Because of the fiber content in chlorella's cell wall and other nutritional factors, when some people begin to take chlorella for the first time they may go through cleansing reactions, sometimes referred to as a "healing crisis". This cleansing reaction comes in the form of intestinal activity such as gas, cramping, constipation or diarrhea.
This same type of cleansing reaction frequently occurs when people switch from a low-fiber, "junk-food" diet to a high fiber, natural food diet.
For this reason, some individuals may wish to start out with less than the suggested amount and gradually increase up to the recommended dose in 1-2 weeks. Very sensitive individuals may want to start with as little as 1/16 of a teaspoon per day (300 mg).
If you have not been eating many fresh raw vegetables in your diet, it is probably a good idea to start out with one 1/16 of a teaspoon with each meal and increase by 1/16 of a teaspoon every 2-3 days.
As long as you are not showing an allergic reaction (such as hives), you can safely continue the chlorella. In a couple of months, the reaction should decrease. And as it decreases, you can increase the dose.
Can Chlorella Be Given To Children?
Absolutely. In fact, chlorella has been shown to promote rapid growth in children, as well as build in them superior immune systems. Children can take 1/2 to 1/4 the adult dose described above.
Chlorella pyrenoidosa
In general, people take 1 teaspoon per day. Work your way from a small amount to this amount if needed. MIXES WELL IN WATER.
